Four days, 100,000-plus visitors and every bed in Hamilton spoken for months out. If you’re coming in a motorhome or caravan, Waypoint gives you a quiet, powered site on the north-east edge of town with your own facilities on board.
Stay for Fieldays →Dates and venue as published by the organiser; always check their site before travelling. National Fieldays is run by New Zealand National Fieldays Society and is not affiliated with Waypoint Hamilton.
Waypoint is a small, self-service campground for self-contained motorhomes, campervans and caravans at 368 Holland Road, Puketaha, on the north-east edge of Hamilton. You book online, get your site number and gate details by email, and let yourself in — there’s no front desk and no check-in queue.
Every site is level and sized for a large motorhome or a caravan with a tow vehicle. Power is an optional add-on when you book and switches on automatically from 1pm on your arrival day until your checkout time. Fresh water is on site; there are no toilets, showers or dump station, so you need to be fully self-contained — the nearest public dump station and rubbish drop-off are listed on our Explore nearby page.
Mystery Creek is south of Hamilton, past the airport. From Waypoint, head into Hamilton and follow the Fieldays traffic signage — the organisers run managed routes and parking from early morning each day, and these change year to year, so trust the signs over your sat-nav. Allow plenty of extra time on the Wednesday and Saturday mornings in particular. The directions link gives you the live route and current drive time.
Fieldays accommodation across the Waikato sells out well in advance. Sites at Waypoint are released online as soon as dates are confirmed, and you can book up to a year ahead.
Fieldays parking is managed and busy. Many visitors tow in, set up, then drive the car in each day — an extra car on your site is a small nightly add-on when you book.
Buy tickets in advance from the Fieldays website; gates and times are published there each year.
Expect cold mornings, mud underfoot and the odd downpour. Power at your site means you can run a heater overnight.
Hamilton and the Waikato are easy to explore from Waypoint — cafés, farmers’ markets, Hamilton Gardens and day trips to Hobbiton, Waitomo and Raglan. See our local guide, and the rest of what’s on in Hamilton.
